Spotting
Why do ballerinas do it and how?
Spotting is when you fix your gaze on a target while turning. As your body rotates, your face stays locked on the target until your chin lines up with your shoulder, then you snap your head around quickly to the other shoulder and find the target again.
Spotting helps dancers see where they are going and not get dizzy in the process… it also sends bobby pins and scrunchies flying.
